The Fullerton College Media Studies Department offers an industry-oriented training program designed to prepare you with skills that you will need for a career in journalism, radio broadcasting, television/video, or photography. The Journalism Program provides a solid foundation in all forms of journalism, media and public relations. The department offers courses that introduce and strengthen students’ skills in new media technologies as well as the core principles of journalism. The program boasts the latest in technology and equipment which gives students the skills needed to meet employers’ demands.

SALARY RANGE: $22,410–$208,000 per year

JOB OUTLOOK: Overall employment of reporters, correspondents, and broadcast news analysts is projected to decline 9 percent from 2016 to 2026. Employment of reporters and correspondents is projected to decline 10 percent, while employment of broadcast news analysts is projected to show little or no change from 2016 to 2026. Employment of photographers is projected to decline 6 percent from 2016 to 2026. Employment of public relations specialists is projected to grow 9 percent from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Overall employment of broadcast and sound engineering technicians is projected to grow 8 percent from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Employment of producers and directors is projected to grow 12 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations.
